Andrea Hoag
Fire & Water

ACCD-9902

A creative tour-de-force from a fiddler with deep roots in both Northern and Southern traditions. Hoag's fiddling is passionate, complex, lyrical, evocative. Her original songs and fiddle tunes are filled with grace and wit. She's accompanied here by master musicians Jacqueline Schwab, Bruce Molsky, Ralph Gordon, Jeremiah McLane, Keith Murphy, Paul Oorts.

Andrea Hoag is a fiddle player whose free flights of imagination are firmly grounded in many years of traditional playing. Fire & Water, which critics have called "spectacular", "compelling", and "gorgeous", combines original tunes with Swedish, southern Appalachian, Celtic, English, and jazz traditions. Andrea is one of the most respected American players of traditional Swedish music, and her three recordings of Swedish fiddling have garnered critical acclaim in Sweden as well as across the U.S. She has performed at venues from the Kennedy Center to Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival, and has been on the faculty of many music and dance programs, including Jay Ungar and Molly Mason's Northern and Southern Weeks, the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Washington State, Augusta Heritage, John C. Campbell Folk School.
