Carey Creed
Washington Area Music
Association (WAMA) and Mid-Atlantic Songwriting Contest award-winning artist
Carey Creed performs solo, with Connemara, and with Mosaic Harmony. I'll
Know You is her first CD to be issued on the Azalea City Recordings label.
Produced with and graced by the musicianship of Tom Prasada-Rao, the CD's
lineup also includes Blix Street Records' Grace Griffith, Three Mo' Tenors'
Dave Marsh, Maggie's Music's Al Petteway and Jody Marshall, Brazilian percussionist
Alejandro Lucini, Emmy winner Lenny Williams, John Previti (Mingus-Monk Tribute),
and more.
Her lyrics invite the listener to dig deep, and you can hear both Saturday
night and Sunday morning in her music. Her bare-bones blues song, "Now I Know,"
describes how inner healing begins as blame ends. She also covers songs by
others, such as the inspiring, uptempo "Chloe" by Jack Bond/ASCAP.
The Washington Post says that Creed "brings an art-song timbre
and precision to a new age/folk repertoire in much the same way that Judy
Collins has... Occasionally she tends to the gamine...and then she gets sassy;
but mostly she bows to the acoustic inevitabilities of love and modern life."
At the debut of I'll Know You, WTMD-FM's Detours show listed the
CD as one of the year's top three local recordings. (CDBaby.com listed it
as one of "This Week's Top Picks" as well). Carey has received regular airplay
over the years on WETA-FM's "Traditions" show. In addition, her setting of
an ancient Vietnamese poem, Rebirth (translated by Nguyen Ngoc Bich),
was recently covered on Grace Griffith's latest CD, Sands of Time.
Rebirth is in national rotation on WFMT Chicago's Midnight
Special show.

CHLOE
She likes the blues
But she loves to hear the church bells toll.
Something in the night steals her heart
But it hasn't got her soul
Street-wise, and a little bit "downtown,"
She wants to live on a mountain.
CHORUS:
Chloe, it doesn't have to be black or white
Chloe, it's not a question of wrong or right
Chloe, you're standing in the light where you are.
She lies awake when the wind blows into her dreams.
Something long ago made her forget,
But I think she still believes.
She's afraid of making choices
But she's hearing those inner voices:
(CHORUS)
She's afraid of making choices
But she keeps hearing those inner voices:
Chloe, it doesn't have to be black or white
Chloe, it's not a question of wrong or right
Chloe, baby, you're alright the way you are
Chloe, it doesn't have to be black or white
Chloe it's not a question of wrong or right
Chloe, you're standing in the light where you are.

NOW I KNOW
Now I know why I felt sad
In a crowd of friends, all smiling.
Now I know why I felt so bad:
I gave away my essence, smiling.
Now I know I've been playing a role
I learned so well as a child;
Now I know deep down in my soul
In many ways I'm still a child.
Give up, got to give up the struggle...
Let down, let down my hair.
Now I know it's gonna seem frightening
But Holy One, give me all the love I can bear!
Now I know why they hurt me so:
They were still children themselves.
Now I know their tears were buried
Never to spill out and heal themselves.
Now I know that You hurt, too
When you see how we suffer.
Now I know that it's You, just You
Who kiss our bruises like a mother.
You heal our bruises like a lover.
You heal our bruises
