David
DiGiuseppe
David DiGiuseppe is a man of many musical hats, equally at home playing Irish
tunes in a pub, French musettes in a cabaret, contra or Cajun music for a
dance, or in the intimate setting of a concert hall. A nationally recognized accordionist,
David is known for his
fiery and emotive playing. He is also an accomplished and versatile
singer, mandolinist, Irish cittern player and story teller.
David currently tours the US with the New England-style contra dance band
FootLoose, performs with the contra band Contrazz, plays Cajun music with
Fais Pas Ca and Jewish music with Gute Tsaytn. As a soloist, he performs
family concerts and educational programs.
David is featured on three solo recordings, including his newest release
Movin' on, with Azalea City Recordings. With the band FootLoose, he
has three recordings--the new release Everdance, Steppin' Out
and FootLoose.
Movin' on features
the accordion fronting a collection of spirited jigs, driving reels and beautiful
waltzes. David adds four vocals to the mix and plays mandolin and cittern
as well.
David has recently
released two books published with Mel Bay Publications.
100 Tunes for Piano Accordion is an extensive collection
of reels, jigs,
hornpipes and polkas from the French Canadian, Cape Breton, Scottish, Shetland,
New England and Southern Old Time traditions. David's first book, 100
Irish Tunes for Piano Accordion, is a collection of traditional Irish
music arranged for the accordion.
In 1989 David received an Emerging Artists Grant from the Durham (NC) Arts
Council to study Irish accordion styles with the noted Irish American musician
Jimmy Keane.
