Carey Creed
Washington
Area Music Association (WAMA) and Mid-Atlantic Song Contest award-winning
artist Carey Creed performs folk, Black Gospel, and Celtic music around the
D.C. metro area. Her lyrics invite the
listener to dig deep, and you can hear both Saturday night and Sunday
morning in her music. At the debut of Carey's first CD with Azalea
City Recordings (I'll Know You), WTMD-FM's Detours show listed the CD as one of the year's top three local recordings. CDBaby.com listed it
as one of "This Week's Top Picks" as well.
Carey has received regular airplay over the years on WETA-FM's
Traditions show. In addition, her setting of an ancient Vietnamese
poem Rebirth (translated by Nguyen Ngoc Bich) was covered by Grace
Griffith on her Blix Street Records release Sands of Time. Rebirth was in national rotation on WFMT Chicago's syndicated Midnight Special show. Griffith's current Blix Street CD My Life features Passing Thoughts, a song Carey co-wrote with Fred Sisson.
“Carey Creed is, well, different. Thank God! She infuses simple lyrics with
such expression, such spirit, that they are literally transformed into some
higher, more precious metal, and one is aware of witnessing a quiet miracle...One’s
heart rises to the joy in her voice.”
Women Today
“Gorgeous...She brings an art-song timbre and precision to a new age/folk
repertoire in much the same way that Judy Collins has...”

Who Do I Love?
Who do I love? It's you, it's you.
Who do I love? It's you.
So cuddle your blanket, snuggle up--
The rocking chair's built for two.
Who do I love? It's you, it's you.
Who do I love? It's you.
So tell me about your day today:
What was it like to be you?
Did you make a new friend when you ran out to play?
Did you learn a brand-new game?
Did you find yourself feeling happy or sad--
Did everything go okay?
Who do I love? It's you, it's you.
Who do I love? It's you.
Let's turn off the light and greet the stars--
They're twinkling just for you.
If you really don't feel much like talking right now,
Well, it's nice being quiet together.
Let's close our eyes and say thanks to God
For dinosaurs, noodles, and feathers!
Who do I love? It's you, it's you.
Who do I love? It's you.
I'll stay with you 'til you're fast asleep
And wish you dreams so sweet and deep...
This lullaby will be featured on Carey's upcoming CD.

Home-Coming
When I stepped homeward to my hill,
Dusk went before with quiet tread;
The bare-laced branches of the trees
Were as a mist about its head.
Upon its leaf-brown breast, the rocks
Like great gray sheep lay silent-wide;
Between the birch trees' gleaming arms
The faint stars trembled in the skies.
The white brook met me half-way up
And laughed as one that knew me well,
To whose more clear than crystal voice
The frost had joined a crystal spell.
The skies lay like pale-watered deep
Dusk ran before me to its strand
And cloudily leaned forth to touch
The moon's slow wonder with her hand.
