Jesse Palidofsky
Healing humor and sharp social commentary with a big slice of the blues

Over the years Azalea City Recordings artist Jesse Palidofsky has shared his music at the National Theatre, on the Hudson River sloop Clearwater with Pete Seeger, at festivals like Common Ground on the Hill and the Washington Folk Festival, and at the Kennedy Center and the Smithsonian National Folklife Festival with the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation.  He is instructor for Blues Piano at Common Ground on the Hill.  Jesse has sung one-on-one with hundreds of terminally ill patients in hospices and hospitals; has led singing for groups of a thousand people or more; and also performed for conferences of clinical psychologists and chaplains; as well as for inmates at the Detroit House of Correction and at the maximum security prison in Salem, Oregon.

"...Jesse played his song, 'I've Got the Swannanoa Sleep Deprivation Blues', which brought the house (at Asheville, NC's Be Here Now) to its feet with cheers and applause."

Crossing the Poison water
Will I wallow on the bank
Sink deeper in the mud
Have my eyes plucked out
Be washed away in the flood
Will I sail 'cross oceans
Disappear without a trace
Or finally reach the other shore
And find it's all been one big waste

    Whoooaaahh, crossing the Poison River
Will I ever be the same?

I could make my killing
Build a mansion for my home
Shut out the world's pain
Buy an island of my own

    The demons from without
    Claw beneath your skin
But the damnedest of them all
    Are those demons from within

Papa grieves for me
Old friends call me a fool
A naive dweeb trying to save the world
Each day I lurch
Into another pothole
But to turn back now
Would do murder to my soul

Azalea Waltz
Charlie’s dreaming something new
Karen’s wailing a Cajun tune
Ruthie’s wrangling on a country blues
Ain’t you heard the news ‘bout Azalea!

Mary Sue’s on satellite
Loretta’s hambo’s are outtasight
Zoe’s revving up and taking flight
Ain’t you heard the news ‘bout Azalea!

Rachel’s rhythms bring healing vibe
Carey’s singing the dead alive
Seth and Laura build up the tribe
Ain’t you heard the news ‘bout Azalea!

Charlie’s dreaming something new
WAMMIE winners–we got a few
Now Jon Carroll’s joined the crew
Ain’t you heard the news ‘bout Azalea!
