Karen Collins & The Backroads Band One
of the Washington area's top retro honky tonk bands, The Backroads Band plays
classic country music like it was played back then. Their sound is vintage
country from the 1940s-1970s. The band's repertoire also includes their original
roots songs written in that early country style.
The band features Karen Collins (vocals, fiddle, and rhythm guitar),
Ira Gitlin (lead guitar and vocals), Geff King (bass and vocals) and Rob
Howe (drums). All four of the Backroads members have been performing musicians
for many years and bring a wide array of diverse musical experiences to the
group. The group's sound is hard driving with a country heart and just
the right amount of twang.

Track 9 2:57
Hurricane
© 2004 Karen Collins
From the upcoming release
Tail Light Blues
(Expected release date early 2007)
Oh Mr. Weatherman, hear my request
And name a hurricane after my ex.
Now, I'm not out for spite. Don't get me wrong.
But he's at least as bad as a mean cyclone.
Oh Mr. Weatherman, fill out the forms
To put his name on the list of deadly storms.
Mr. Weatherman, oh hear my plea.
So all the world may know what he's done to me.
As he blew out of town it became so clear.
He was leaving me alone, knee deep in tears.
Mr. Weatherman, it's a sight to see.
My broken heart lies buried in debris.
On the Saffir-Simpson scale he's a category 5.
And the way he ploughed right through my heart
It's a wonder I'm alive.
Mr. Weatherman, I do admit
That I'm still reeling from the force of a direct hit.
So Mr. Weatherman, send an SOS
He's a destructive force, a potential threat.
A trail of shattered dreams lie in his wake.
Better shutter up your hearts girls and evacuate.
Oh Mr. Weatherman, my story's grim
Please name a hurricane after him.
