Sat., Jan. 8
Upper Potomac Fiddle Retreat. Intensive weekend workshops in traditional fiddle styles, including Scottish, Cape Breton, Shetland, Irish, French Canadian, Old Time, Scandinavian, Klezmer, and Bluegrass, plus a dance band workshop and a class on backing fiddle tunes for hammered duclimer. Teaching staff includes Elke Baker, Steve Hickman, Andrea Hoag, Alan Oresky, Ellen Jacobs, Liz Donaldson, and Ken Kolodner in a relaxed retreat setting at the Historic Hilltop House Hotel in Harpers Ferry, WV. Saturday night contra dance with an open band, with Liz Donaldson and Elke Baker leading the band as well as jam sessions for all.
