News Summer 2005Loretta Kelley, Charlie Pilzer, and I have been busy in the recording studio, and have finished most of the tracks for our new CD, Hambo in the Snow. It will have a winter theme (as you might have guessed) and feature some of our favorite traditional Swedish polskas, polkas, and hambos, Norwegian hardingfele tunes, and some originals. It's due out in November on Azalea City Recordings. Azalea City Recordings In June, Loretta and I contributed fiddle parts to a delightful CD project, The Berntsons, with Eleanor Lundeberg on pump organ and her son Karl on guitar, mandolin, banjo, and bass. The tunes on the CD are from the Berntson Family Band: Eleanor's father and his family and friends, who played at Norwegian-American dance halls in Wisconsin in the 1940s. Look for this CD in the coming months. Loretta and I were featured performers on NPR's Performance Today on May 17th (Norwegian Independence Day), as part of a series on links between traditional Scandinavian music and classical music. You can hear the performance at NPR Performance Today I've been enjoying playing with Emerald Glen , a Celtic trio with Barbara Heitz on gold flute and Jody Marshall on hammered dulcimer and piano. Visit our new website! I also had a wonderful time as a guest musician on Jody's new CD Cottage in the Glen. Jody Marshall David and I are very happy about having a major league baseball team in town, and now we are avid fans of the Nationals AND Cubs, as well as following the Orioles and our local collegiate league's games at the beautiful Povich Field.
