October 2007
Happy fall! There’s lots of news to share. We have several new CD releases, new artists on the label, special concerts, and links to CD reviews and articles about ACR artists. There’s also a yummy recipe from Ruthie!
The CD Peace of Wild Things showcases Carey’s gorgeous voice. The recording features a wonderful array of musicians and arrangements.
Carey will be joined onstage by many DC favorites including Grace Griffith, Zan McLeod and Jody Marshall.

Azalea City artists Rachel and Henry Cross’s house in Takoma Park, MD, burnt down in August 2007. They and all their animal friends survived. They have been doing an extensive inventory of what they have lost. However, we do know that Henry’s recording equipment and Rachel and Henry’s instruments are not covered under their insurance.
There are many ways you can help:
Please write checks to Rachel and Henry Cross, and mail to: Rachel and Henry Cross, 812 Gist Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
Donate to the “Rachel and Henry Cross Fund” currently set up at Chuck Levins. You can call Chuck Levins and ask for Abbie Levin or Crystal. Call (301)946-8808 and pay by credit card. We have set a goal of $5,000 for this fund. This is a special fund for Rachel and Henry that you must specifically ask for—this is not “Chuck’s Bucks.” This will be where Henry will buy his new studio and where Rachel will buy some instruments and music necessities.

Buy a gift card at MusiciansFriend.com. This is where Rachel will replace certain instruments she uses for her work. We have set a goal for $1,500 of donations on this account. Please go to http://www.musiciansfriend.com/giftcertificate.
One of the best ways to come together and support our friends is to gather in song. We are planning a concert with Institute of Musical Traditions for early 2008. Keep your eyes and ears perked.
While Rachel and Henry are awed by the generousity of our community, they ask you hold off on in-kind donations of stuff until they have a clear idea of what they need, what they lost, and what is covered. If you have a particular item in mind, stow it for now and write it down for future reference. When they know what they need, they will let us know.
Please feel free to email Rachel and Henry at cross@tidalwave.net or call (301)589-7768. You can mail cards of support to: Rachel and Henry Cross, 812 Gist Ave Silver Spring, MD 20910. Please email Mary Sue Twohy at twohies@aol.com or call (240)274-2893 with any questions or ideas.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Wash, peel, and cut potatoes in chunks or desired shapes (about the size of an apple quartered).
Put into a large bowl and toss with olive oil. (Adjust amount of oil if necessary to lightly coat all the slices).
Add salt, rosemary, and garlic powder, and toss again.
Pour onto a metal baking sheet, keeping potatoes as separate as possible.
Bake for 25–30 minutes or until potatoes are tender and starting to crisp.
Serve hot.
We really look forward to seeing you at one of our special events. Please check our website to learn more about each of our artists. Everyone at Azalea City wishes you a very happy fall!
Sincerely,
Laura Baron, Editor
